The Myth of “Getting It All Done”
The Lie We Were Sold
At some point, I genuinely believed there would be a moment where everything was just… done.
Laundry? Finished.
Dishes? Gone.
House? Clean.
Life? Managed.
Like I’d wake up one day and think,
“Wow. Nothing is chasing me today.”
That has never happened.
The Never-Ending Loop
Here’s how it actually goes:
You do the laundry → there’s more laundry
You clean the kitchen → someone eats
You plan meals → it’s time to plan meals again
It’s not a to-do list.
It’s a hamster wheel with snacks.
“Maybe I’m Just Not Organized Enough”
I used to think:
if I woke up earlier
had a better system
bought more bins (obviously)
then maybe I could finally get ahead.
But the problem isn’t the system.
The problem is… there is no finish line.
Nothing Is Ever Done. Just Temporarily Under Control.
That’s it. That’s the secret.
Nothing in this phase of life gets completed.
It just gets:
handled
reset
done again tomorrow
And once you realize that, something shifts.
Lowering the Bar (In a Good Way)
Instead of trying to “get it all done,” the goal becomes:
👉 did we eat?
👉 is anyone out of underwear?
👉 did I keep everyone mostly alive?
Great. We move.
Redefining “Productive”
Some days productivity looks like:
answering one email
starting the laundry (not finishing it)
remembering to defrost something for dinner
That counts.
We’re counting it.
So If You Feel Behind…
You’re not behind.
You’re just participating in a system that literally resets itself every 24 hours.
There is no catching up.
Only keeping up-ish.
And honestly?
That’s more than enough for this stage of life.
Still standing (barely)
